The Marshal is a Rook/Knight compound piece, and is known by many different names in different variants. Some common alternative names are [1] Empress and particularly Chancellor.


Movement

The Marshal slides any number of squares along ranks or files, or it makes a (2,1) leap.

History

The Marshal appears in many chess variants, dating back at least to the 17th century. It is perhaps best known as the Chancellor in Capablanca Chess and its derivatives.
